You may not know it but I’m a huge fan of Sons of Anarchy. I love motorcycles and definitely plan on having one someday. I long to hop on and just ride in freedom as the sun sets behind me and the wheels eat asphalt below my feet. In the meantime, I’d just love to ride on one. As far as SOA goes, I enjoy watching the life on the edge, the 1%’er drama unfolding each week. I’m thankful it isn’t my life but there is still a certain intrigue about the community. Kurt Sutter does a fantastic job creating each episode and he’s fun to follow on Twitter as well. Do it.

One thing I enjoy in each episode is the music. There is a list of all the music featured on each episode on Wikipedia and I decided to take some of my favorites from that list and share them here. This is by no means the best that was used, just what stood out to me tonight for whatever reason. I’ll be doing this each week, one song from each episode, until each season is complete. Here are some goodies from Season 1. This will be a very video-heavy post as there are 13 episodes in the first season. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I did picking what to share!

Oh. And it’s on tonight, Tuesday at 10pm on FX. Meet me there.

Fireball Ministry: Kick Back (Season 1, Episode 1) – A very good band that I need to brush up on.

Fu Manchu: Mongoose (Season 1, Episode 2) – I always love me some Fu. One of the more memorable shows I’ve been to was seeing Fu Manchu at what used to be Rex’s in West Chester, PA.

Big Linda: Get It While You Can (Season 1, Episode 3) – Um, awesome!?

Lions: Evil Eye (Season 1, Episode 4) – Not the most fantastic recording, but it’s from one of my favorite clubs, The Khyber (Philly, PA). I dig it.

The Donkeys: Excelcior Lady (Season 1, Episode 5) – First time I’m hearing this and I love it.

The Black Keys: Keep Me (Season 1, Episode 6) – Good golly, these guys groove. Can never get enough.

Clutch: You Can’t Stop Progress (Season 1, Episode 7) – I will always and forever be a disciple in the house of Neil Fallon, whatever project he is in.

Dropkick Murphys: Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya (Season 1, Episode 8 ) – This has been one of my ringtones for years. I have Irish blood and this gets my blood moving. Listen to it and don’t move. I bet you can’t do it.

Lyle Workman & The Forest Rangers: Fortunate Son (Season 1, Episode 9) – This is one of the best songs ever written and this is an absolutely beautiful instrumental version of it. I can’t help but close my eyes and sing the lyrics in my head, feeling each soulful pull of the strings.

Monster Magnet: Monolithic (Season 1, Episode 10) – Apologies to my husband, who had an unfortunate experience with the one dude from this band, but I do sweat this song.

Sasquatch: Money Man (Season 1, Episode 11) – What a great, driving stoner rock band. Just the right fuzz, just the right groove, just the right locomotive power.

Greenleaf: Stray Bullit Woman (Season 1, Episode 12) – This is another surprising find for me. I never heard of this band and I am completely loving it. Dirty. Can’t wait to check out more.

Black Mountain: Stay Free (Season 1, Episode 13) – I saw this band play a set at the Roadburn Afterburner in Holland this year. Uhhhhmayzing. One of the best of the 4 day festival.

See you next week Tuesday for my top picks from Season 2! This may have been one of the most fun blogs I’ve done in a long time. Looking forward to doing the next one. In the meantime, make sure you watch it and keep an ear out for all the good tunes going on.
