Drink: Beer Garden at Taste of Pennsylvania Wine & Music Festival in York, PA

beer

Next month is the 5th Annual Taste of Pennsylvania Wine & Music Festival at the historic York Fairgrounds in York, PA. I’m not much of a wine drinker. I mean, I definitely enjoy wine and occasionally buy a bottle at the liquor store or order a glass with dinner, but I’m a beer girl.

Beer is kind of the nectar of the gods. This is a well-documented and proven fact. Google it if you don’t believe me.

I receive emails from Golden Crust Pizza in Red Lion where they let everyone signed up for the newsletter know what beer is on tap and on deck. For such a small town, Golden Crust has an incredible selection of craft beer. For instance, right now on tap is Delirium Tremens and on deck is Dogfish Head Hellhound and Southern Tier Oak-Aged Unearthly IPA. Their food is also quite delicious. I recommend their Spicy Italian sub (toasted), the Smokin’ Ranch Pizza, and an eclair. Drooooool. Drink there or get a growler to go, your choice. Anyway, the recent newsletters from Golden Crust have mentioned a beer garden hosted by Yorktoberfest going on during the Taste of Pennsylvania Wine & Music Festival. Tickets are only $15 for unlimited beer from 6pm-9pm on Saturday, May 19th.

Intrigued and wanting more information, I found their Facebook page and asked for more information on the event. From the response, it sounds like their focus is not on the beer garden (understandable):

Well, it is a Beer Garden. We don’t want to take too much spotlight away from the fact that it is still a Wine Festival. That said…Yorktoberfest proper had only 13 beers on tap and I recall that turning into quite the party. There will be at least 12 brews, likely more and even some homebrew in there. The important thing is, the samples are virtually limitless and it’s only $15.

I did receive general brewery information from Matthew Davis with CrocodileDog Marketing (thanks, Matthew!) and you can expect Lavery, Spring House, Stoudt’s, South County, and Liquid Hero beer on tap. Local beer is going to be well-represented and that is always an exciting way to support our community. I was a bit surprised I didn’t see Mudhook on the list since they were at the Winterfest Craft Brew Festival at the Chameleon Club back in February but maybe they had something else going on that day.

It’s hard to beat a $15 ticket for a beer garden and hopefully we’ll be able to make it out for this event. The Facebook page also says that all proceeds are going to charity which is even better! Beer people (and wine people) are good people.

If you have more information on this event that I should know about, let me know and I’ll add it to this post. Are you attending the beer garden or wine festival? Have you gone in previous years?
